Entitled girlfriend unexpectedly invites parents, brother, and cousin to dinner date, gets upset when boyfriend refuses to pay entire $400 bill: 'Her mom made a comment about me being cheap'

Having a compatible attitude towards finances is a crucial yet sometimes overlooked aspect of being in a long-term relationship. It is much easier to enjoy each other's company when you know that you are on the same page about money, and many an otherwise strong bond has been ruined by couples having very different ideas about the best ways for any hard-earned cash to be spent.

This doesn't just apply to the big decisions, either, like buying a house or getting into debt. The day-to-day of who pays for what and why can also be fertile ground for disagreements and arguments if it is not treated with care. There is nothing wrong with the expectation that one person contributes more financially to a relationship, so long as that is communicated clearly and both people agree to it. However, making this an unwritten rule and then continually pushing its boundaries is only going to lead to trouble.
