  • Am I wrong for refusing to pay for my girlfriend’s half of dinner after she invited her whole family without telling me?

So my girlfriend and I planned a casual dinner date. I booked a nice spot, just the two of us. When I got there, I realized she had invited her parents, her brother, and even her cousin. I was caught off guard but went along with it because I didn't want to make a scene.

  • The bill comes and it's nearly $400. She looks at me expecting me to cover it all. I told her I was happy to pay for our meals, but I didn't agree to bankroll her entire family's night out. She got upset, said a "real man" wouldn't have hesitated, and her mom made a comment about me being cheap.
  • I ended up paying just for me and my girlfriend, and she had to split the rest with her family. Now she's angry and says I embarrassed her. Her family thinks I'm r_de. From my perspective, I was blindsided and it wasn't fair to expect me to cover a group dinner I didn't even agree to. AITA?

joe-lefty500 Your gf is ride and entitled. So is her family. What are you doing?
  • The_Artsy_Peach NTA. That "real man" comment was gross from her. Does she normally act like that? If so, why are you with her?
  • First Attempt_4124 NTA. I'd tell her that at "real woman" would've let you know ahead of time that she invited family and expected you to pay.
  • icnoevil It was a test. You passed.
  • Crafty_Special_7052 NTA that's a red flag. I'd be ending that relationship.
  • facinationstreet NTA but you now know an entire family that are AHs
  • Exotic-Knowledge-243 NTA so you dumped her mooching Like her entire family came to mooch on a date night. Freeloaders ?
  • ShawnD7 I would've only paid for me
  • Queenfan1959 NTA get a new girlfriend
  • KathyKatKathleen Is this the type of family you want to be a part of? Get out as fast as you can
  • Early-Low2891 NTA - Just nah, man. Throw the whole girlfriend away. That's pretty entitled doing that. Also, now you know what her family is going to be like, especially her mother. Do you really want that drama in your life.
  • ZoSoTim Dump her and her disrespectful family or you're in for a lifetime of this nonsense.
  • nuclear_herring I'm sorry, you mean your ex-girlfriend, right?
  • whydoihavetojoin She needs to apologize to you for blindsiding you and putting you in an embarrassing situation. A better solution would have been to just leave (if you weren't already seen by her) when you noticed her whole family there. Call her 20 minutes or so later saying you had an emergency.
  • HUNGWHITEBOI25 ...so the family that crashed your date and expected your to cover the bill is calling YOU cheap...okay... NTA but dude...do you REALLY want a life of this crop? Cause that's whats gunna happen if you stay with this girl...
